Exhibition Highlights

We are pleased to announce Ryohei Yamashita's solo exhibition, "Energyism," at GINZA ATRIUM. Yamashita is a painter who consistently pursues the expression of "energy" throughout his work in the contemporary art scene.

Yamashita has established a unique artistic style by finding the pinnacle of beauty in the "movement and energy" of people. He captures various bodily motions—such as cutting through the wind or making water dance—onto canvas with bold compositions and brushstrokes that utilize his full physique. He continues to evolve, challenging himself to express diverse moments, whether by transposing an athlete's imagination onto a landscape or choosing seasonal sentiments as his theme.

The exhibition title, "Energyism," is a neologism and a new concept proposed by Yamashita, combining "Energy"and "Artism." His research into video expression and his personal experience as an athlete deeply influence his work, enabling him to create his unique expression by merging these fields. This exhibition marks the first comprehensive unveiling of this new concept. By visualizing the invisible energy, the artist aims to awaken the inner vitality of the viewer.

This exhibition will feature new works, alongside representative series focused on themes such as athletes, samurai, and natural landscapes. Original works in oil and acrylic will be displayed and available for sale, as will Neo-Silk Screen prints of his original pieces.

Furthermore, the exhibition will include special collaboration works with popular manga. This includes new original drawings depicting the world of the manga Kingdom, created at the direct request of the author, Yasuhisa Hara, as well as collaborative art with the manga Blue Lock, which shares a strong affinity with Yamashita's style. The display will feature a selection of works from the previous collaboration project unveiled at Isetan Shinjuku.

【Artist Statement】

What I aim to share with viewers is the visualization of energy in painting. My research into video expression and my personal experience as an athlete profoundly influence my creative process, allowing me to generate unique expressions through their fusion. I strive to visualize the flow and dynamism of the energy residing within, utilizing color, brushwork, form, and texture. My works simultaneously embody stillness and dynamism, offering viewers a sense of physical sensation and emotional immersion.

I also explore the expression of different types of energy through the contrast between "simplicity (So)" and "density (Mitsu)." A dynamic flow of energy is born when bold strokes harmonize with intricate details.

I propose the concept of "Energyism," through which I intend to express the unique appeal and power held by my work. My goal remains to bring new energy to people's hearts and to introduce a fresh perspective to the world of expression.
